We believe growing herbs is super rewarding for a number of reasons and we love to plant as many types as we can into our gardens. The Physic Garden has over 50 medicinal plants for you to discover.
We will talk about herbs for the kitchen; for biodiversity in the garden; companion planting; edible flowers; edible ‘weeds’ and growing medicinal herbs.
We will be planting seeds or seedlings of herbs to take home so you can eat fresh, save a few pennies and decorate your own space. We will show you how to setup a herb garden, care for and harvest your herbs and show you which tools are best to use. You'll take home a tray of edible and medicinal seeds, seedlings and cuttings ready to plant in your home garden.
About Urban Growers
Grant LaBrooy and Byron Smith have planted edible gardens in cafés and spaces all across Sydney, including Kitchen by Mike, and have been involved in paddock to plate harvest projects with Grow it Local and OzHarvest. The boys are using Urban Growers as a platform to educate people about small-scale food farming and how to plant, harvest and prepare that food. It might be a few leaves from the basil plant growing in an old boot on your windowsill, or it might be an entire salad sourced from the raised bed in your backyard. As a community, we can grow edible gardens on our balconies, in planter boxes on our rooftops, on the verges on neighborhood streets and in the backyards of our houses. Urban Growers is about doing more with and taking more from our urban spaces, whatever the size, and cultivating them to yield produce that will nourish and sustain us long after the last of the pesto has been licked from the bowl.
